Rakesh Kumar entered law practice in the year 2000. He began his practice principally at Tis Hazari Courts, which was then considered a must for the grooming of a litigating attorney. Gradually he started taking up cases of his colleagues at the High Court of Delhi. Within a very short period, he got considerable engagements before the High Court of Delhi and his first reported case goes back to 2003.
Simultaneously he was arguing matters before the Supreme Court of India and handled high-profile cases, including the Fodder Scam case before the Supreme Court in the early years of his practice. In 2009, he became an Advocate on Record at the Supreme Court of India.
He has a diverse and longstanding practice that includes civil claims, corporate and commercial law, criminal law and has been engaged on the original, appellate, and writ sides. He has done cases which besides having been widely covered by national media have important legal issues, including issues involving interpretation of the provisions of the Constitution and those of other statutes.
He has been one of the leading advocates in cases having wide socio-political and other implications, such as Jamia University Minority Institution status case, Jat Reservation case, Uttar Pradesh Apartment Act case.
He practices unceasingly before the Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi, National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), and National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).
In addition to his Delhi-based practice, Rakesh has been appearing frequently before the Bombay High Court, Karnataka High Court, Calcutta High Court, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Patna High Court, and Uttarakhand High Court.
Till 2007, he had an independent chamber practice, and thereafter he established Rakesh Kumar and Associates. Subsequently, he established and founded DSN Legal in February 2019 with the underlying philosophy of multiple minds, multiple hands, and multiple eyes.
